Endicott Tops Gordon In Match Of Undefeated CCC Squads, 5-4

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team moved one step closer to locking up the No. 1 seed in the CCC Tournament with a 5-4 victory over Gordon College on Thursday evening. Both teams entered today's match with an identical 6-0 record in CCC play.

Endicott took a crucial 2-1 lead at the conclusion of doubles play as the Gulls picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, via four freshmen.

Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) and Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) earned a hard-fought 8-2 victory in the No. 2 position to even the score of the match at 1-1 after Gordon's No. 1 pairing of Abigail Denney (Peoria, Ariz.) and Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif) claimed a clean 8-0 triumph over Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) and Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.).

Fitzgibbons and Rahr were then followed in the win column by classmates Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine) and Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) who notched a come-from-behind victory at No. 3 by an 8-4 decision after trailing 4-3 at one point during the match.

In singles action, Barnett turned in a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 to give Endicott a 3-1 advantage, while Gordon's Justine Hanson (Meadow Vista, Calif.) countered with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at No. 2 to make it a 3-2 deficit.

Both teams then exchanged wins at No. 5 (Endicott/Bergstein) and No. 4 (Gordon/Jeffreys), respectively, to push the score to 4-3 in favor of Endicott before Rhodes battled through a 7-6 (8-5), 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles to clinch the match for the Gulls.
