Women's Tennis Falls to No. 30 Brandeis in Final Spring Tune Up

WALTHAM, Mass. – In their final spring tune up before taking on the field at the 2016 NCAA Division III Tournament, the Endicott women's tennis team lost 9-0 to the ITA's No. 30 ranked Brandeis Judges on the road. The Gulls enter their fifth consecutive national tournament, which begins the first week of May, with a 14-4 overall record.

In doubles play, Brandeis' top flight team of sophomore Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and freshman Michele Lehat (Great Neck, N.Y.) only gave up a single game in an 8-1 win while the number two duo of freshmen Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and senior Emily Eska (Princeton, Mass.) shutdown their Gull opposition.

At the number three doubles match, Endicott took a couple of games behind the strong play of freshmen Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) and Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) but ultimately fell 8-2 to Brandeis senior Saritas Biswas (Bedford, Mass.) and freshman Ariana Ishaq (Houston, Texas).

In singles action, sophomore Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) battled her number five position opponent, Lehat, to a 6-3, 6-3 losing decision while at the top of the lineup, freshman Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) took two games apiece in each set of a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Cohen. At number six singles, junior Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.) played a tight first set, but ultimately lost 6-3, 6-1 to Judges senior Hannah Marion (Hillsborough, N.C.).
