No. 8 Wesleyan (Conn.) Downs Women's Lacrosse, 15-8

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Endicott women's lacrosse team fell to No. 8 nationally ranked Wesleyan (Conn.), 15-8, on Monday afternoon in non-conference action at Smith Field.

Bailey Sheehan (Pomfret, Conn.) led the Gulls with three goals while Kiana Napolitano (Revere, Mass.) and Emerson Clark (Gloucester, Mass.) both added two. Clare Wendell (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) also found the back of the net in the setback.

The Cardinals opened up a 5-3 lead after the first quarter never looked back. Endicott was able to cut it 6-5 midway through the second quarter following two goals from Sheehan and one from Napolitano. Wesleyan would score five of the next six as they led 11-6 going to halftime.

A 4-0 third quarter for Wesleyan sealed the game as Endicott would tack on two more in the final 15 minutes.

In goal, Lydia Akins (Edina, Minn.) made 12 saves in the defeat as her record goes to 2-5.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 

  • The Cardinals are undefeated in the all-time series versus Endicott (5-0).
  • With her 12 saves, Akins moves into 5th place all-time for saves.
  • First hat-trick of Sheehan's career.
  • Wesleyan was shutout in the fourth quarter for the first time all season.

Endicott (2-5) travels to Vassar on Wednesday, March 20 at 4:30 PM. No. 8 Wesleyan (Conn.) (4-1) hosts St. Lawrence on Wednesday at 3 PM.
