Springfield Pulls Away From Women's Lacrosse, 13-11

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's lacrosse team lost to Springfield, 13-11, on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Hempstead Stadium. 

Kiana Napolitano (Revere, Mass.) highlighted the Gulls attack with four goals and two assists.

Endicott received multiple goals from Emerson Clark (Gloucester, Mass.)Mia Smith (Portsmouth, N.H.), and Katie Jones (Franklin, Mass.)Clare Wendell (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with a solo tally.

Defensively, Matilda Darrah (Dover, N.H.) forced two turnovers, scooped up two ground balls, and won a team-high four draw controls.

In goal, Lydia Akins (Edina, Minn.) stopped 12 shots in the defeat.

Deadlocked at seven after a half, the defenses tightened up in the third quarter as the two teams combined for just three goals. Napolitano potted two after an early Springfield goal to put the Gulls up 9-8 going to the final quarter.  

The Pride answered with a 3-0 run to start the fourth quarter to go up 11-9 halfway through the period. The two teams traded goals the rest of the way solidifying a 13-11 Springfield win. 

BEYOND THE BOX 

  • Endicott is now 5-3 all-time versus Springfield.
  • Clark scored the first goal of her collegiate career. 
  • Jones' two goals were her first in an Endicott uniform.
  • The Gulls are 15-14 all-time in season openers. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (0-1) travels to MIT on Saturday, February 24 at 1 PM. Springfield (1-0) hosts Skidmore on Wednesday, February 28 at 5 PM.
