Endicott Runs Past Wentworth, 65-42

BOSTON— The Endicott women's basketball team turned in a 65-42 effort for a commanding road win at Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon inside Tansey Gymnasium in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

The Leopards recorded the first bucket of the game before the Gulls held the opponent to a season-low point total in a single quarter (2) and went on a 19-0 run bleeding into the second quarter as Endicott led 19-2 with 8:55 remaining before the halftime break.

Endicott kept the pressure on as a 30-21 score at the break grew to 45-31 heading into the final 10 minutes of action.

A strong fourth quarter effort secured the victory for the Gulls, as junior guard Hannah Kiernan (Wenham, Mass.) scored a game-high 16 points with 12 of those points coming in the second half.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls are 26-3 against the Leopards in the all-time series, including a 12-1 ledger on the road.
  • Endicott has won the past four straight meetings, including a regular-season series sweep  this season with a 78-57 win to ring in 2017 on 01/03/17.
  • Endicott limited Wentworth to 1-of-16 (0-for-5 from three-point range) in the first quarter.
  • The Gulls were able to score 23 points off 19 Wentworth turnovers throughout the contest and led by as much as 24 (61-37) with 3:32 left in them game.
  • The Gulls dished out a season-best 22 helpers as junior guard Gabriella Coppola (Watertown, Mass.) registered a season-high eight assists to go with eight points and seven rebounds.
  • Senior forward Sarah Hood (Burlington, Mass.) finished one rebound shy of a double-double as she turned in a 10-point, nine-rebound performance.
  • Freshman guard Emily Pratt (Gardner, Mass.) tied her single-game career-high with four blocked shots alongside her eight points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
  • Endicott matched its season-low with 11 personal fouls committed.

FOR THE FOES

  • The Leopards lost their 10th consecutive game.
  • Wentworth out-scored the Gulls 19-14 in the second quarter.
  • Sophomore guard Francesca Matira (Ledyard, Conn.) paced the squad with a team-high eight points, two rebounds, and two assists.
  • Freshman guard Sam McGibbon (Pembroke, Mass.) grabbed a team-best eight rebounds to go with five points, two assists, and two steals.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Gulls (9-10, 8-4 CCC) hosts the University of New England to MacDonald Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 31st at 7:30 p.m in the "White Out" game sponsored by Gull Revolution. Gulls' fans are encouraged to wear the color white. There will also be a Hungry Hungry Hippos contest taking place at halftime.

Wentworth (2-17, 0-12 CCC) welcomes Eastern Nazarene to its campus on Tuesday, January 31st at 5:30 p.m.
