Salem St. Tops Endicott, 61-45

SALEM, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team lost to host Salem St., 61-45, in non-conference North Shore Cup action Saturday afternoon inside Twohig Gymnasium.

A strong fourth quarter propelled Salem St. to victory over Endicott as the Vikings out-scored the Gulls, 21-6, in the final frame.

Through three quarter of play, Endicott and Salem St. recorded identical figures in the second (14) and third quarters (12), as the Gulls trailed just 40-39 heading into the final 10 minutes of action.

Junior guard Norma Waggett (Saugus, Mass.) scored a game-high 22 points as Salem St. won its fourth game in a row.

With the loss, the Gulls head into the holiday break at 3-6 overall, while Salem St. improved to 7-3 on the season.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls led by as much as five with 3:32 left in the second quarter for their largest lead of the game, but went into halftime trailing, 28-27.
  • Junior forward Hannah Shaw (Bar Harbor, Maine) led the Gulls with 12 points and eight rebounds (tied for team-high) on the day.
  • Shaw has recorded double digits in eight of the Gulls' nine games this season and has paced Endicott in scoring in seven games this season.
  • Freshman guard Emily Pratt (Gardner, Mass.) added nine points, while junior guard Hannah Kiernan (Wenham, Mass.) chipped in eight points and eight boards and senior forward Sarah Hood (Burlington, Mass.) contributed eight points and five rebounds.
  • Freshman forward Kaleigh Putnam (Wallingford, Conn.) registered a career-high two blocks.
  • The Gulls have lost three games in a row.

FOR THE FOES

  • Junior guard Kate Lipka (Peabody, Mass.) and sophomore forward Kia Fernandes (Wareham, Mass.) joined Waggett in double figures with 11 and 10 points apiece, respectively.
  • Fernandes grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to go with her 10 points for a double-double.
  • Senior guard Kaitlyn Bryan (Lowell, Mass.) dished out a game-high four assists to go with nine points and five rebounds.
  • The Vikings out-rebounded the Gulls, 42-38.

NOTES

  • The Gulls have won four of the past seven meetings, though Salem St. snapped a three-game skid in the all-time series against Endicott with today's victory.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Gulls (3-6, 2-1 CCC) are off until they close out 2016 by welcoming Brandeis University to Beverly, Mass. on Friday, December 30 at 2:00 p.m. Salem St. (7-3, 0-0 MASCAC) travels to Boston, Mass. on Tuesday, December 13 to take on Emmanuel College at 7:00 p.m.
