Gulls Ring In New Year With 78-57 Win Versus Wentworth

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team snapped a four-game skid with a 78-57 victory over visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology Tuesday evening inside MacDonald Gymnasium to open its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) slate in 2017.

The Gulls scored a season-high 78 points, even though Endicott was up just 38-31 at the half.

A 26-point third quarter (matched season-high) created all the separation the Gulls would need the rest of the way as Endicott led by as much as 30 with seven minutes remaining in the game.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls are 25-3 against the Leopards in the all-time series, including a 14-2 ledger at home and have won the past three straight meetings.
  • Endicott placed four student-athletes in double figures as junior guard Gabriella Coppola (Watertown, Mass.) led the way with a team-high 14 points, followed by 12 points apiece by junior forward Hannah Shaw (Bar Harbor, Maine) and junior guard Hannah Kiernan (Wenham, Mass.).
  • Senior forward Sarah Hood (Burlington, Mass.) rounded out the double-digit quartet with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
  • Coppola dished out a game-high six helpers and Kiernan recorded a career-high six steals.
  • Hood and freshman guard Emily Pratt (Gardner, Mass.) each blocked a game-high three shots.

FOR THE FOES

  • Junior forward Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass.) paced the Leopards with a game-high 17 points and a team-best seven rebounds.
  • The Leopards led by as much as four with 7:48 to play in the first quarter.
  • Wentworth converted 13-of-21 free throws compared to Endicott's 9-of-17 effort.

The Gulls (4-7, 3-1 CCC) welcome cross-town rival Gordon to MacDonald Gymnasium on Thursday, January 5 at 5:30 p.m.
