Beverly, Mass. – The Endicott men’s tennis team responded from two tough conference losses with a 9-0 win over visiting Anna Maria in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) matchup Saturday afternoon.
The Gulls (7-5, 5-2 TCCC) opened a 3-0 lead after doubles play and won all six singles matches in straight sets. Anna Maria drops to 2-8 overall and 0-7 in conference play with the loss.
The number one doubles tandem of senior Devon Locke (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) and Zach Arpey (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) defeated David Bourget (Winter Park, Fla.) and Adam Williamson (Spencer, Mass.) 8-5 to improve to 9-3 on the season and 6-1 in conference matches.
Olivier Joggi (Stoneham, Mass.) and Jake Cohen (Barrington, R.I.) won 8-2 at the number two spot while Justin Nguyen (Shelton, Conn.) and David Feudo (Stratford, Conn.) won by the same score at number three.
Locke earned another win at the top singles spot after defeating Williams 6-1, 6-1.
Arpey improved to 12-0 on the season in singles matches with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Mike Dandurand (Warwick, R.I.) at the number two spot.
Evan Ross (Worcester, Mass.) and Tyler Hovey-Wildman (Concord, N.H.) both cruised to a win at third and fourth singles, respectively.
Freshman Andrew Zurheide (New London, N.H.) did not surrender a game en route to his second win of the season while senior Holden Babcock (Millbrook, N.Y.) blanked Ricky Louis (Brockton, Mass.) at number six singles.
Endicott returns to the court on Monday (April 11) when it travels to Newport, R.I. for a conference clash with Salve Regina. Anna Maria takes on Nichols on Tuesday, April 12 at 6:00 pm.
