Springfield, Mass. – The Endicott men’s tennis team won four of six singles matches, but dropped all three doubles matches in a hard-fought 5-4 loss to Western New England on Wednesday afternoon.
The Gulls (6-4, 4-1 TCCC) and Golden Bears (9-2, 5-0 TCCC) were both previously unbeaten in conference play coming into today’s match. Endicott had not lost a match since March 15th.
Endicott’s \#3 through \#6 singles players each won in straight sets with freshman Zach Arpey (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) leading the way with 6-2, 6-3 \#4 singles victory to improve to 10-0 on the season.
At the \#3 singles spot, Olivier Joggi (Stoneham, Mass.) edged his opponent 7-5 in the first set before taking the second set 6-3 to improve to 6-3 in that position. Evan Ross (Worcester, Mass.) and Jake Cohen (Barrington, R.I.) each handled their opponents 6-4, 6-4 to take the \#5 and \#6 singles matches, respectively.
In doubles play, all three Endicott duos were bested including the \#1 doubles combination of Arpey and Devon Locke (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) who lost 8-4. The loss snapped a six-match winning streak for the two players.
Endicott will look to get back to their winning ways on Friday, April 8th for a 3:30 pm home match against TCCC rival Nichols.
