Beverly, Mass. – In a matchup of two of the top
teams in the TCCC, the Endicott men’s tennis squad lost 5-3
to Nichols. The loss dropped Endicott’s record to 6-5 (4-2
TCCC) while the Bison remain undefeated in conference play at 6-0,
9-4 overall.
The match started in doubles play with Nichols taking two out of
three contests. Endicott was able to win the \#1 doubles spot with
senior Devon Locke (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) and freshman Zach
Arpey (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) by a score of 8-3.
Bison’s \#2 and \#3 doubles players handed Endicott losses,
both by a score of 8-5. Daniel Young (Washington Depot, Conn.) and
Isiah Prosper (Manchester, N.H.) won \#2 doubles while David
Drucker (Bellmore, N.Y.) and Eliot Wuhrmann (Fontainbleau, France)
earned a \#3 doubles win.
In singles play, Drucker continued his strong play with a 6-2, 6-1
win at the \#1 spot for Nichols.
The \#2 and \#4 singles matches went to the Gulls with Locke
winning 6-3, 6-2 over his opponent at \#2 and Arpey getting a
hard-fought, 6-2, 7-6 triumph at the \#4 spot.
The \#6 singles match featured a third-set tiebreaker between
Endicott’s Cohen and Nichols’ Wuhrmann. Cohen took the
first set 6-3, dropped the second set 2-6 before Wuhrmann ran away
with a 6-1 win in third.
The \#3 singles match went unfinished.
Endicott returns to action on Saturday, April 9th at 1:00 pm at
home against Anna Maria. Nichols hosts Regis on Saturday for an
11:00 am match.
