Springfield, Mass. - Endicott men's tennis freshman standout Zach Arpey (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was named this week's The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Rookie of the Week after going 4-0 in singles and 2-2 in doubles play.
The Gulls traveled down to Hilton Head, South Carolina to compete in a spring tournament and Arpey shined, going 3-0 against his \#4 singles opponents. Against Dickinson College's Kurt Mendelson, Arpey won 6-4, 3-6, 10-4. He followed that performance by winning in straight sets over The College of Wooster's Paul Thomas 6-2, 6-2 and Illinois-Springfield's Mike Czarny 6-3, 6-2.
In \#1 doubles play down in South Carolina, Arpey and teammate Devon Locke (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) lost to Dickson and Illinois-Springfield but edged Wooster opponents Landon Moore and John Schulz 8-6.
The Blue and Green return to Beverly and in their first match they faced TCCC rivals Regis College, winning 9-0 as as team. Arpey handled his \#3 singles opponent Sophorn Nop without dropping a set 6-0, 6-0 while once against partnering with Locke at \#1 doubles for the 8-0 sweep over Daniel Berdichevsky and Nop.
Endicott hosts their first home match of the season on Wednesday, March 23rd at 3:30 pm against TCCC opponent Nichols College.
