Gulls' Late Effort Falls Short In 2-1 Loss To Bates

Gulls' Late Effort Falls Short In 2-1 Loss To Bates

BEVERLY, Mass.— A late goal down the stretch by sophomore midfielder Samantha Crowley (Leicester, Mass.) wasn't enough as the Endicott field hockey team dropped a 2-1 non-conference decision Wednesday night at North Field to visiting Bates College.

With the loss, the Gulls had their three-game winning streak snapped and moved to 7-6 overall. Bates improved to 5-3 overall with tonight's win.

Senior forward Shannon Beaton (West Newbury, Mass.) got the Bobcats on the scoreboard just 43 seconds into the game with a shot that trickled past senior goalkeeper Rose Bradley (Pottstown, Pa.) into the back right of the cage.

Sophomore midfielder Caroline O'Reilly (Longmeadow, Mass.) deposited a ball into the back left of the cage off a penalty corner insert from sophomore midfielder Lauren Foster (Pawling, N.Y.) in the 20th minute.

Crowley gave the Gulls life in the 63rd minute on a pass from sophomore midfielder Madi Wood (Bristol, Vt.) in traffic in front of the cage that she tipped to the back left to cut the deficit to 2-1.
