Endicott Erupts For Five Second Half Goals As Gulls Blank Nichols, 6-0

Dudley, Mass. – The Endicott field hockey team blanked the Nichols College Bison, 6-0, Saturday night at Vendetti Field in a game that featured five second half goals for the Gulls.

With the win, Endicott evened its record to 5-5 overall (3-1 CCC), while Nichols fell to 1-6, 0-3 in conference play.

Senior forward Morgan Bresnahan (South Burlington, Vt.) scored the game-winning goal 8:26 into the contest (Cogliano) and took a 1-0 advantage to halftime.

The Gulls exploded for five markers in the second half, as Endicott scored a pair of goals 3:05 apart midway through the second stanza to extend their lead to 3-0 and seal the win.

Sophomore Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) potted her fourth of the season at 54:56 (Bushey) before sophomore forward Brittany Bushey (Pittsford, Vt.) netted her second marker of the season at 58:01 to push the score to 3-0. Bushey was assisted by sophomore midfielder Emily Hirtle (Rowley, Mass.).

Senior midfielder Ashleigh Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.) opened the flood gates for the Gulls in the last three minutes of the contest as she scored her first goal of the season (unassisted) with a high shot past the goalkeeper from the slot.

Freshman forward Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) had two goals (both unassisted) in the final minute, going one vs. one with a defender and then a breakaway to cap off the scoring for the Gulls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Tonight's game saw the Gulls shut out Nichols for the first time since a 2-0 win for Endicott on Oct. 24, 2005 in Dudley, Mass.
  • Five goals in the second half is the most goals in a half the Gulls have scored this season, and most since they put up six goals in the second stanza against Salve Regina in a 7-1 victory on Oct. 25, 2014.
  • Bresnahan scored her first game-winning goal of the season (fourth career).
  • Cogliano's pair of late goals put her in a three-way tie for third in the CCC in goals (8) and she tallied her first career assist on Bresnahan's game-winner.
  • Bushey had one goal and her first career assist tonight.
  • Allen registered her first goal of the season after being second on the team in goals in 2014 with 10.
  • Hirtle recorded her second assist of the season.
  • The Gulls outshot the Bison 41-4, holding them to two shots in each half of play. Cogliano paced Endicott with 13 shots (eight on goal).
  • 41 shots are the most the Gulls have taken this season.
  • Six goals matches the team's most this season, (6-1 at Salem St. on September 8).
  • Senior goalkeeper Rose Bradley (Pottstown, Pa.) made one save to improve to improve to 4-5 on the season and earned her first shutout of the season (third career).

FOR THE FOES

  •  Nichols junior Katherine Cotton (Kennebunk, Maine) recorded a career-high 18 saves – 12 in the second half.
  • Senior Haley Fountain (Warren, Mass.) was credited with a pair of defensive saves for Nichols. while junior Brooke Marion (South Hadley, Mass.) had one.

NOTES

  • Endicott moves to 18-10 all-time against the Bison as the Gulls have won three in a row – including two in Dudley.
  • The teams' only common opponent so far this season was Roger Williams, as the Gulls beat the Hawks, 2-1, on September 19, whereas the Bison fell 5-1 (September 22).

Nichols (1-6, 0-3 CCC) hosts Salve Regina on Wednesday, September 30 at 4:00 p.m.
