BEVERLY, Mass. - A pair of Endicott College freshman helped pace the Gulls in their 2-0 victory over the Fighting Scots of Gordon College in the TCCC Semifinals on Wednesday afternoon in a game held at Endicott. The freshman pair of Alexandra Parese (Wilton, Conn.) and TCCC Rookie of the Year Anna Giannoni (Granby, Conn.) each scored a goal to help shoot the Gulls into the TCCC Championship game.
The Gulls came out firing in the first period as they were able to keep possession of the ball on the Gordon half of the field for the majority of the frame. The Gulls had two opportunities early in the game as Joanne Reid (Clarksville, Md.) and Giannoni had their opportunities to score but were turned away by Gordon's Chyanne Wilson (Pearl River, N.Y.). With about 15 minutes to go in the period, the Gulls were able to get back-to-back penalty corners that were put into play. On the second corner, Joanne Reid made a pass from the top of the box to the freshman Parese who put the ball past Gordon's netminder and gave the Gulls the lead going into the break.
In the second frame, the Gulls would continue their offensive attack as the Gulls were able to get multiple shots on the Fighting Scots. None would be able to fall however as Wilson made several saves and Gordon's Emma Gates (Franklin, Vt.) had a defensive save to keep the Gulls at bay. Gordon would have their best opportunities to score as they were able to take five shots in a two minute span in the 40th minute to try and find the equalizer but would come away empty-handed.
In the 53rd minute, the Rookie of the Year Giannoni would have her chance as she scored an unassisted goal and put the Gulls ahead for good with the insurance tally.
Endicott senior Chelsea DeFeo (York, Maine) was able to make two saves in the win for the Gulls. Chyanne Wilson made six saves in the contest for Gordon College.
The Blue and Green move on the TCCC Finals to be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at North Field on the campus of Endicott. They will face New England College who defeated Salve Regina by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday. The only previous meeting between the two teams this season had Endicott winning by a score of 3-0 on October 4th.
