Giannoni, Cipolla and Gulls awarded with conference honors

BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott College freshman forward Anna Giannoni (Granby, Conn.) has been named The Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Year and head coach Jodi Cipolla has been named the TCCC Coach of Year, as announced by Conference Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye on Friday. Four other Gulls also received All-Conference honors.

Eight different institutions from The Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2008 All-TCCC Field Hockey Team. New England College senior Jodie Dresser was named TCCC Player of the Year, Endicott College freshman Anna Giannoni was named TCCC Rookie of the Year, Gordon College senior Jane Eisenhauer was named TCCC Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year, Endicott College coach Jodi Cipolla was named TCCC Coach of the Year, and Regis College was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Voting for the All-TCCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among TCCC field hockey coaches.

Joining Dresser and Giannoni on the first team were forwards Taryn Flagg (University of New England), midfielders Jackie Dwyer (Nichols), Veronica Pierce (Gordon) and Joanne Reid (Endicott), backs Jennifer Beech (Endicott), Brittney Case (Nichols), Holly Soule (New England College) and Jennifer Tripp (Univ. of New England), and goalkeeper Chelsea DeFeo (Endicott).

In addition to Eisenhauer, second team selections included forwards Marisa Ayotte (New England College), Samantha Bourgeois (Endicott), Eileen Clinton (Nichols) and Mollie Sweeney (Gordon), midfielders Cassandra Bushey (Univ. of New England), Andrea Michel (Salve Regina), Sarah Orlando (Gordon) and Ashley Simula (New England College), backs Jessica Abelson (Western New England) and Emma Gates (Gordon), and goalkeeper MaryKate Bednarz (Nichols).

Earning honorable mention were midfielder Alexandra Kluchnick (Regis), back Lauren Dahrooge (Salve Regina) and goalkeeper Chyanne Wilson (Gordon).

Dresser, a native of Keene, N.H., was recognized as TCCC Player of the Year after leading the conference with 20 total points in conference-only play through the completion of regular-season play. In conference-only games, Dresser is currently tied for second in the league with eight goals and also stands tied for third with four assists. In all games played, Dresser leads all TCCC players with 41 total points, is tied for the conference lead with 17 goals and is currently tied for third with seven assists.

Giannoni, a product of Granby, Conn., was named TCCC Rookie of the Year following a stellar freshman campaign. In conference-only play, Giannoni stands third with 16 total points and is currently tied for second place with eight goals. The newcomer also sports strong statistics in all games played, as her 17 goals is tied for the conference lead, and her 34 total points ranks third among TCCC players with 34 total points.

In her second year as head coach of Endicott College, Cipolla led the Gulls to a perfect 8-0 mark in TCCC play and an impressive 15-4 overall record thus far. Endicott has earned the top seed in the upcoming TCCC Championship.
