Oct. 27, 2008

BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott College senior midfielder Michelle Berard (Ashland, Mass.) has been named The Commonwealth Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week, as announced by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye on Monday. Berard notched the game-winner in a 2-1 triumph over cross-town rival Gordon College on Tuesday evening.

Michelle's deciding goal marked a historical milestone for Endicott, as the win over the Fighting Scots gave the Gulls their first-ever undefeated conference season in the program's history. Berard's goal in the 77th minute also secured the overall number one seed for Endicott entering next week's playoffs. The goal was the second of the season for the senior midfielder and was her eighth point on the year.

Endicott retakes the field on Tuesday afternoon as the Gulls step out of conference play against the nation's fifth-ranked team, Tufts University. The Gulls and the Jumbos are scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start in Medford, Mass. The Commonwealth Coast Conference postseason tournament is scheduled to begin on Saturday; however Endicott will receive an opening round bye after earning the top-seed. The Gulls will wait for their playoff opponent on Wednesday, November 5 at 1:30 p.m. in Beverly.
