WENHAM, Mass. - Endicott senior Michelle Berard (Ashland, Mass.) was able to score her second game-winning goal of the season seven minutes into overtime as the Gulls were able to beat Gordon College 2-1 in TCCC action on Wednesday night. The win moves the Gulls to a perfect 8-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference as well as a stellar 15-3 overall while the Fighting Scots drop to 10-8 overall and 4-3 in the TCCC.
Gordon was able to get on the board first as Veronica Pierce (West Hartford, Conn.) was able to take a pass from Sarah Orlando (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) and put a shot past Endicott's Chelsea DeFeo (York, Maine). The goal gave the Scots the lead with only five minutes to play in the first half.
Endicott would be able to respond early in the next frame as Anna Giannoni (Granby, Conn.) would score an unassisted goal to knot the game at one goal apiece. The goal would come nearly ten minutes into the half and then the two teams would turn up the defense. DeFeo made eight of her nine saves on the game in the second period while Gordon's Chyanne Wilson (Pearl River, N.Y.) made all four of her saves.
The game would spill into overtime and Berard would have her chance to win the contest. The senior would be able to score an unassisted goal 7:28 into the extra frame to send the Gulls to victory.
The win marks the first time the Endicott field hockey team has gone unbeaten in conference in the program's history at 8-0. The victory also locks up the number one overall seed for the Gulls in the upcoming TCCC playoffs.
The Blue and Green will return to the field next Tuesday when it travels to Medford, Massachusetts for a non-conference show down with Tufts University at 4:00 p.m. Gordon looks to bounce back when it travels to Nichols College on Saturday for their final TCCC match of the year at 10:00 a.m.
