BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott College field hockey team has earned the six seed in the upcoming TCCC Playoffs, as announced by The Commonwealth Coast Conference Commissioner Gregg Kaye on Thursday morning.
Gordon College has claimed the top seed for The Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey championship, which begins with quarterfinal match-ups on campus sites Saturday afternoon.
The Fighting Scots (12-7 overall) earned the top seed in the conference tournament after compiling a perfect 8-0 record in TCCC play.
Gordon and \#2 seed New England College (12-6, 7-1) will receive quarterfinal-round byes in the six-team tournament.
Saturday's quarterfinal matchups will feature \#3 seed Western New England College (7-12, 5-3) hosting \#6 seed Endicott (10-5, 4-4) and \#4 seed University of New England (5-10, 4-4) hosting \#5 seed Nichols College (13-5, 4-4). Endicott will take on WNEC at 12:00 p.m. while UNE and Nichols are tentatively scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Three teams -- University of New England, Nichols and Endicott -- ended the regular season with identical 4-4 conference records, necessitating the use of several tiebreakers. In head-to-head play among those three teams, each team posted a 1-1 record. None of the three tied teams posted conference wins over either the top two seeds -- Gordon or New England College -- but UNE was the only one of the three tied teams to defeat \#3 Western New England, earning the \#4 seed for the Nor'easters. Nichols defeated Endicott in the teams' lone conference game, thus earning the \#5 seed for the Bison.
In semifinal round action on Wednesday, October 31, Gordon will host the winner of the UNE-Nichols quarterfinal game, while New England College will host the winner of the Western New England-Endicott quarterfinal contest. Both semifinal games are scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
Semifinal winners will square off for the conference championship on Saturday, November 3 at 1:00 p.m. at the site of the higher seed.
