BIDDEFORD, ME - Megan McBride (Saugus, MA/Saugus) came off the bench to score a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the second overtime period, to give Endicott College, a hard-fought 3-2 win over the University of New England in The Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action Saturday evening.
The Gulls grab their first conference win to move to 1-2 in TCCC play, 5-2 overall. UNE falls to 3-5, 2-2 in league play. The come-from-behind victory also keeps Endicott perfect versus UNE all-time at 5-0.
The Blue and Green would get on the scoreboard just 4:12 in when freshman Joanne Reid (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) scored her first collegiate goal.
UNE would respond later in the half as Kim Anderson (Bowdoin, ME/Maranacook) scored an unassisted goal at the 25:40 mark. Heather Laferriere (Veazie, ME/John Bapst) then converted a penalty stroke with 4:06 remaining in the half to give the hosts a 2-1 advantage.
The Gulls were held at bay until 10:25 remained in regulation when McBride found the back of the cage to make the score 2-all.
After the teams played a scoreless 15-minute overtime session, McBride ended the match 1:23 into the second period.
Chelsea DeFeo (York, ME/York) had 11 saves for the Gulls while Tanya Callan (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) came up with eight stops for UNE, which returns to play Tuesday at Lasell College.
The Gulls return to action Thursday when they travel to Bridgewater State College for a non-conference match starting at 4:00 pm.
