BEVERLY, MA - Four different Gulls found the back of the net to lead the Endicott College field hockey team to a decisive 5-0 win over the Anna Maria Amcats on Wednesday afternoon on the North Field.
The Blue and Green got on the board first scoring in the eighth minute when Megan McBride (Saugus, MA/Saugus) beat Alyssa Boykin (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) to put EC up 1-0. The Amcats were able to keep Endicott off the scoreboard for the remainder of the half despite the Gulls eight shots and 10 penalty corners.
Endicott came out of the half-time break looking to add to their lead. Junior Chelsea LaClair (Middlesex, VT/U-32) got the ball rolling for the Gulls when she buried a feed from Jennifer Beech (Devonshire, Bermuda/Saltas Grammar) giving EC a two goal cushion. Anna Maria's defense was once again able to slow the Gulls offense but in the 60th minute McBride slid a pass across the goal mouth to a wide open Amanda Shaw (Bristol, VT/Mt. Abraham Union) who knocked the ball into the net, widening EC's lead to 3-0.
McBride pushed the lead to four goals just 1:16 later when she slashed her way through the Amcat defense and beat Boykin for her second goal of the day. The sophomore forward finished the game with five points on two goals and an assist.
Reigning TCCC Player of the Year Jennifer Rheaume (Blackstone, MA/Blackstone-Millville) also got in on the scoring in the 68th minute after she collected the rebound of a Joanne Reid (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) shot and put it in the net sealing the 5-0 win for the Blue and Green.
Boykin, the Amcat goalkeeper, finished the day with nine saves as EC out shot Anna Maria 21-5. Chelsea DeFeo (York, ME/York) and Angela Ziogas (Pelham, NH/Pelham) split time in goal for the Gulls each making two saves to help Endicott to its 10th win of the year.
Anna Maria falls to 2-13 overall and 1-7 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference while Endicott improves to 10-5 overall and 4-4 in TCCC play. The Amcats return to action Thursday when they visit Eastern Connecticut State at 3:30 p.m. The win closes out Endicott's regular season and the Gulls now await word of their first round TCCC Tournament match up.
