SPRINGFIELD, MA - Junior goalie Chelsea DeFeo (York, ME/York) was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Gulls to a shutout victory over Babson in EC's opening contest.

DeFeo anchored the defense as she turned away 13 shots en route to a 1-0 win. The Blue and Green got on the board early but were out-shot by the Beavers by a wide 19-6 margin. DeFeo was up to the task as she made a number of dazzling, game saving stops in the second half, including a clutch save on a penalty corner with just over six minutes to play. The junior also stymied back-to-back shots in the final three minutes to preserve the slim lead and lead the Gulls to the win.

DeFeo has made an immediate impact on the field as she takes over in goal for ECAC Tournament MVP and All-CCC selection Erin Curry who graduated last spring. The Gulls return to action on Saturday, September 8 when they host Wheaton College on the North Field at 1:00 pm.
