Endicott Suffers First Loss

Endicott Suffers First Loss

Sept. 22, 2007

BEVERLY, MA - Gordon College goalkeeper Chyanne Wilson (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) held the Endicott offense to just one goal as she made seven saves to lift the Fighting Scots to a 4-1 win in TCCC action on Saturday.

Gordon got on the board early as Veronica Pierce (West Hartford, CT/Kingswood-Oxford) collected her own rebound then found Abigail Walker (Portland, ME/Deering) in front of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead just over six minutes into play. Walker would finish the game with four points collecting a goal and a pair of assists.

The Blue and Green would respond shortly after as Jennifer Rheaume (Blackstone, MA/Blackstone-Millville) battled her way through the opposing defense and drove a shot past Wilson to tie the game at 1-1 with 16-minutes to play in the first half.

The Fighting Scots regained the lead with just eight minutes remaining in the half when Riel Hoffacker (Suffield, CT/Suffield) redirected a cross from Mollie Sweeney (South Hamilton, MA/Hamilton-Wenham) into the EC net putting the Scots up for good.

Gordon added a pair of insurance goals in the second half with Sweeney and Ariadni Niavradaki (Hania, Crete/Greece) each finding the backboard on nearly identical goals. Both Sweeney and Niavradaki's goals came as a result of balls that got through the crease and evaded the reach of EC goalie Chelsea DeFeo (York, ME/York).

DeFeo made four saves for the Gulls while Wilson made seven stops for the visiting Scots. The loss was the first of the year for the Blue and Green as EC falls to 3-1 on the season and 0-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. Meanwhile Gordon improves to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in TCCC play, the Scots two conference wins came against New England College and Endicott who faced off in last years conference championship game.

Gordon returns to action Tuesday when they visit MIT in Cambridge, MA at 6:00 pm. The Gulls will look to get back on the winning track on Monday when they cross the Bay Bridge to take on North Shore rival Salem State at 6:00 pm.
