SALEM, MA - The Endicott College field hockey team rebounded from their first loss of the season over the weekend with a, 1-0, win over North Shore rival Salem State College on Monday evening at Alumni Field.
The Gulls broke the scoreless tie with just 3:09 to play in the opening half as junior forward Samantha Bourgeois (Gardner, MA/Gardner) buried a rebound off Michelle Berard's (Ashland, MA/Ashland) original shot from seven yards out, putting Endicott up, 1-0.
Endicott turned on the offensive pressure in the second half, dominating the host Vikings in their defensive end. The Gulls out shot Salem State, 14-2, in the second frame, and 18-3 overall. Vikings goalie Jessica McKenna (Rowley, MA/Bishop Fenwick) kept her team close, making 11 saves in the 1-0 loss. Endicott's Chelsea DeFeo (York, ME/York) was only forced to make two saves in the shutout victory.
With the win, Endicott improves to 4-1 overall (0-1 TCCC). The Gulls return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they travel to Springfield, MA to face-off with Conference opponent, Western New England College. The Gulls and the Golden Bears are slated for a 4:00 PM start time on Wednesday afternoon.
