No. 1 Baseball Stifles Southern Maine, 10-3

BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 1 Endicott baseball team defeated Southern Maine, 10-3, on Wednesday evening at North Field.

WP (1-1): Nicholas Cannata (Marlborough, Conn.) — 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 7 K
LP (1-2): Colin McDonald (Gorham, Maine) — 2.2 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 6 BB, 3 K

Tied 0-0 in the bottom of the third, Endicott busted the game wide open with a five-run frame.

Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton, Mass.) jumpstarted the Gulls with a two-run blast to right field, his second of the season.

TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) and James Benestad (Northboro, Mass.) followed with bases loaded walks, while Joey Frammartino (North Reading, Mass.) sprinted home on a wild pitch for the fifth and final run of the inning.

In the following frame, the Blue and Green tacked on three more runs thanks to three consecutive RBI singles up the middle from Robbie Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.), Frammartino, and Liponis.

From there, the team rode the strong pitching performances of Cannata, Brady Stuart (Hudson, Mass.), Kyan Bagshaw (Amherst, N.H.) and Evan Scully (Maynard, Mass.) to capture its third win in three days.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls are now 15-22 all-time against the Huskies, and have won each of the last five matchups.
  • Notarangelo's home run tied him with Caleb Shpur '23 (East Canaan, Conn.) and Matthew Bishop '07 (Woburn, Mass.) for the program record of 24 career home runs.
  • Entering today, the Gulls ranked sixth in the nation for team ERA (2.93).
  • Frammartino reached base for a career-high five times (three singles, two walks).
  • Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.) extended his hitting streak to eight with his 2-for-6 afternoon.

No. 1 Endicott (15-1) hosts Curry on Saturday, March 30 at 12/3 PM. Southern Maine (3-12) visits Rhode Island College this Saturday at 12/3 PM.
