No. 2 Baseball Rallies Past Middlebury For 8-6 Victory

AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The No. 2 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team overcame an early 2-0 deficit to secure its ninth win of the season on Sunday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Field Complex, 8-6.

WP (1-0): Chris Jenkins (Mansfield, Mass.) 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
LP (1-2): Charlie Kutz (Dalton, Pa.) - 4.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
SV (2): Will Fox (West Hartford, Conn.) - 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

After Middlebury clubbed two solo homers in the bottom of the second to claim an early 2-0 advantage, the Gulls responded with a three run homer from Joey Frammartino (North Reading, Mass.) in the top of the fourth to snag the lead.

However, the Panthers knotted the score in the bottom half of the inning via a sac fly to right field.

Charlie Hale (Brookline, N.H.) limited the Panthers to just two earned runs in his 4.2 innings of work, striking out six along the way.

The game remained a stalemate until the top of the sixth, when John Mulready (Peabody, Mass.) crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

The Blue and Green would add insurance in the eighth and ninth innings thanks to a Zach Stephenson (Mansfield, Mass.) sacrifice fly and a TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) 2-run triple. Liponis came around to score on a wild pitch as well, pushing the Endicott lead to 8-4 in the top of the ninth.

Despite the Panthers scoring two runs in the bottom of the frame, Will Fox entered and recorded the final two outs, closing out the 8-6 victory for the Gulls.
