BOSTON, Mass. — The No. 3 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team defeated UMass Boston, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon at Monan Park.

WP (1-0): Jordan Gottesman (Acton, Mass.) — 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 11 K

SV (1): John Connolly (Attleboro, Mass.) — 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

The Gulls used a four-run fifth inning and let their pitching take care of the rest to secure the season-opening victory.

Dylan Pacheco (Dartmouth, Mass.) started the scoring with an RBI double to center before Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.) followed with a two-run double of his own on the next at-bat to make it 3-0.

Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton, Mass.) capped the four-run outburst with a deep triple to center.

Notarangelo also added an RBI double in the top of the ninth for some late insurance.

From there, Connolly closed out the final three frames to notch his first career save.
