Women’s Volleyball Goes 1-1 On Final Day Of Tom Hay Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott women's volleyball team posted a 1-1 record on day two of the Tom Hay Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Blake Arena. The Gulls defeated Westfield State, 3-2, by scores of 24-26, 25-16- 23-25, 25-15, and 15-8, before falling to Amherst College, 3-1, by scores of 19-25, 25-23, 22-25, and 21-25.

Highlighting the weekend of play for Endicott was senior defensive specialist Erika Trudon (Coventry, Conn.) who compiled 75 digs (5.00 per set) over four matches (15 sets played) to earn Tom Hay Invitational All-Tournament Team honors.

MATCH ONE: Endicott 3, Westfield State 2 (24-26, 25-16- 23-25, 25-15, 15-8)

Endicott rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the contest behind the strong play of Alex Dippel (St. Petersburg, Russia), Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.), Tori McIntyre (San Diego, Calif.), and Mareena Clotfelter (Poulsbo, Wash.) down the stretch.

Offensively, Dippel, Gifford, and McIntyre combined for 17 kills over the final two sets, while Clotfelter registered 20 assists and six digs.

McIntyre finished the match with her seventh double-double of the season on 13 kills and 12 digs, and Clotfelter picked up her third double-double of the year via 37 assists and 12 digs. Dippel also finished with 11 kills, while Gifford had five putaways, 12 assists, two service aces, and five digs.

MATCH TWO: Amherst 3, Endicott 1 (19-25, 25-23, 22-25, 21-25)

Despite the loss, Trudon and McIntyre shined for the Gulls as both student-athletes put up staggering numbers in the four-set match.

Trudon recorded 33 digs, which ranks ninth all-time in a single match, and second all-time in a four-set match, and McIntyre compiled 23 kills (.305) and 20 digs to complete her eighth double-double of the season.

Meanwhile, Dippel added another 14 kills to her stat line, while Clotfelter dished out 40 assists and tallied 19 digs.

Throughout the four-match tournament, McIntyre and Dippel averaged 3.53 and 3.00 kills per set, respectively, while Clotfelter contributed 115 assists (7.67 per set) and 45 digs (3.00 per set).
