Endicott Sweeps Simmons 3-0 Behind Sheehan's Strong Night

BOSTON, Mass. – The Endicott women's volleyball team improved to 7-3 on the season after sweeping Simmons 3-0 on Wednesday evening. The Gulls remain on the road on Saturday as they travel to New London, Conn. to take on Coast Guard and Clark.

The Gulls, who won by scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-16, were led yet again by outside Lauren Sheehan (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) as the junior recorded seven kills on 18 error-free attempts to hit .389 for the match. Reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, Mackenzie Kennedy (Andover, Mass.) led the defensive effort with a match-best 14 digs in the win.

BEYOND THE BOX

Endicott's three middles, Erica Hadad (Salem, N.H.), Emily Diezemann (Peabody, Mass.) and Rasa Hamel (Clinton, Conn.) were errorless on the night, combining to post a 9-0-18 (.500) in the win.

Senior outside Tori McIntyre (San Diego, Calif.) hit .278 (6-1-18) for the match while also grabbing 12 digs in the win.

Setter Mareena Clotfelter (Poulsbo, Wash.) led the team with 16 assists as she helped guide the Endicott offense to hit at a .230 clip for the match.

Endicott is now 6-2 all-time against Simmons and has won the last six straight meetings dating all the way back to 1997.

FOR THE FOES

Senior Abby Hart (Westfield, Mass.) hit a team-high .391 as she finished second on the team with 10 kills on 23 attempts and just one error.

Setter Kenna McCarthy (Shelter Island, N.Y.) recorded a match-high 28 assists to accompany four digs in the setback.

Libero Kate Guillotte (New Bedford, Mass.) finished with 12 digs to lead the Sharks.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (7-3) travels to New London, Conn. to take on Coast Guard and Clark in a tri-match at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday before returning home to host the University of New England on Wednesday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m. Simmons (1-4) takes to the road to travel to Albertus Magnus for their GNAC opener on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
