Beverly, Mass. – The Bowdoin College women’s volleyball team forced a fifth and deciding set against Endicott College on Tuesday evening, but the Gulls responded with a strong final set to win 3-2 (26-24, 19-25, 28-26, 24-26, 15-7) in non-conference action. 

With the victory, the Blue and Green improved to 18-14 overall while Bowdoin dropped to 16-10.

Endicott were led by efficient offensive performances by sophomore \#Falyn Torelli\# (Pelham, N.Y.) and junior \#Elyse Barbour\# (Greenville, R.I.) who compiled 14 and 13 kills, respectively.   Both players avoided errors as combined they had only 10 errors on 78 total attacks. Senior outside hitter \#Brittany Phillips\# (Sudbury, Mass.) led all hitters with 18 kills. 

Bowdoin also had three players reached double-digit kills with Hillary Cederna (Cumberland, Maine), Melissa Haskell (Medfield, Mass.) and Kristin Hanczor (Redding, Conn.) tallying 15, 14, and 11 kills each. 

Both teams were strong defensively. Bowdoin’s libero Taylor Vail (Glendale, Calif.) amassed 34 digs in the match to lead the Polar Bears while Endicott’s libero \#Ashley Norley\# (Sudbury, Mass.) had 27 digs to lead the Gulls. Also chipping in defensively for the Blue and Green were \#Ally Murphy\# (Guilford, N.H.) with 17 digs and \#Sarah Allshouse\# (Berthoud, Colo.) with 15 digs.

At the net, Barbour made one solo stop and three assisted blocks to lead Endicott. Bowdoin’s Tory Edelman (New York, N.Y.) and Stephanie Drumright (San Francisco, Calif.) each had two solo blocks a piece. 

The primary setters in the match found their teammates often with Allshouse leading the home team with 44 assists and Sophia Cornew (Portola Valley, Calif.) dishing out 38 for the Polar Bears.

Endicott will host another match on Thursday, October 28 against The Commonwealth Coast Conference rival Gordon College for Senior Night starting at 7:00 pm. Bowdoin hosts Emerson and Keene State for a non-conference tri-match on Saturday, October 30 starting at 10:00 am.
