Endicott Rebounds to Win Bronze at MIT Invitational

Sept. 22, 2007

Stats

CAMBRIDGE, MA - Just one day after the Endicott women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on day one of the MIT Invitaional, the Gulls rebounded to defeat Muhlenberg College and Bates College to capture the Bronze Bracket.

In the 10:00 AM match-up, Endicott downed Muhlenberg College, 3-1, to get back on the winning track. After taking game one, 30-21, the Pioneers fought back to even the score at 1-all as they downed the Blue and Green, 30-27. Endicott responded by closing our MC with a, 30-26, game three win, and a convincing 30-22 trimuph to take the match.

Endicott's Steph Wiese (Higganum, CT/Haddam-Killingworth) kept her strong weekend going with 16 kills, two aces and 12 digs in the win. Hayley Janelle (Madbury, NH, Oyster River) returned to form with a 13 kill effort against the Pioneers. Amy Grigg (Vernon, CT/Rockville) compiled 11 kills while Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, CA/Aptos) dished out 51 assists in the four game match.

The Gulls kept the momentum rolling as they squared-off with Lewiston, Maine's Bates College. The Gulls flexed their muscles in the form of a, 3-0, sweep of the Bobcats. With impressive game scores of 30-13, 30-20, and 30-13, Endicott made Friday's disappointment seem much longer than 24 hours ago.

Amy Grigg had a breakout day for the Gulls as the freshman middle blocker had 12 kills and no errors on 20 swings in the three-game sweep. Grigg also notched six blockers in the victory. Steph Wiese added 10 kills to her weekend line and also served off 13 straight points in the first game, distancing the Gulls from the opposition. Brittany Nolan (Monroe, CT/Masuk) turned in 12 digs while Meghan Hall was credited with 26 assists.

Endicott retakes the court on Tuesday evening as they return home to face Brandeis at 7:00 PM. The Gulls haven't seen the friendly confines of the MacDonald Gymnasium since the Endicott Invitational Tournament at the beginning of September.
