Endicott Takes Two on Day One of EC Invitational

Match One - Emmaneul /Match Two - Keene State

BEVERLY, MA - The Gulls opened day one of the 2007 Endicott Invitational by defeating Emmanuel College, 3-0, and then downing the Owls of Keene State College, 3-1. Endicott improves its overall record to 5-1 on the season, while sitting atop Pool A with a 2-0 record after one day of play.

In their first match of the night, the Gulls made quick work of the Great Northeast Atlantic Conference's Emmanuel College. Endicott's Steph Wiese (Higganum, CT/Haddam-Killingworth) and Hayley Janelle (Madbury, NH/Oyster River) each chipped in eight kills as the Gulls downed the Saints in three games, 30-10, 30-10, and 30-27.

Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, CA/Aptos) continued her rampant run, as the reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Year dished out 29 assists in the win. Brittany Nolan (Monroe, CT/Masuk) saw action in two games for the Blue and Green, where she turned in a team-best eight digs. 6'2" freshman middle blocker Amy Grigg (Vernon, CT/Rockville) had three blocks in the three game sweep.

Emmanuel College was led by Lindsey Parker's (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) four kills. The Saints also got a strong effort from Jennifer Walsh (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield) and junior Amanda Machado (Swansea, MA/Joseph Case), as the duo had six assists and nine digs, respectively. Senior middle hitter Meagan McGivern (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) had three blocks in the loss.

In the 7:00 pm contest, the Gulls squared-off with the dangerous Owls of Keene State College. After winning the first game, 30-24, the Owls turned the table on the Gulls and downed Endicott by the same score in game two. However the Gulls were able to regroup and take the match, defeating Keene State 30-24 and 30-28, escaping with a hard-fought, 3-1, win.

The Gulls Meghan Hall continued her impressive evening as she handed out 49 assists and racked-up 20 digs in the four game win. Steph Wiese paced the Gulls upfront as the sophomore outside hitter had 14 kills for the Blue and Green. Senior Kim Marschner (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) finished the contest with 20 digs while Amy Grigg had seven blocks.

Keene State's Brittany O'Bryant (Merimack, NH/Merimack) led the Owls with 13 kills. Jordan Pokryfki (Wasila, AK/Colonie) had 39 assists and 16 digs in the losing effort.

Endicott currently sits atop Pool A with a 2-0 overall record after one day of the two day event. The Gulls return to action on Saturday afternoon as they square-off Eastern Connecticut State University at 12:00 noon. The last time these two squads met was in the NCAA Division III Tournament, where Endicott came away with a 3-2 win.
