CAMBRIDGE, MA - Both Vassar College and Smith College proved to be a tough day one match-up for the Endicott women's volleyball team, as the Gulls dropped a pair of matches at the MIT Invitational Tournament on Friday evening in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The Gulls were tripped up in their 6:00 PM contest against a formidable Vassar College squad (10-2 overall). Endicott took game one from the Brewers, 30-20, but then dropped the next three, 30-26, 30-7, 30-22. Sophomore Steph Wiese (Higganum, CT/Haddam-Killingworth) led the way for the Gulls with 11 kills and 12 digs in the losing effort. Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, CA/Aptos) had 28 assists while Brittany Nolan (Monroe, CT/Masuk) had 21 digs.
Endicott returned to the court at 8:00 PM as they continued Pool C play with Smith College. The Pioneers made quick work of the Gulls, defeating the Blue and Green in three games (30-24, 30-24, 31-29). Again, Endicott was led by the play of Wiese, who racked-up 10 kills and 18 digs for EC. Freshman Amy Grigg (Vernon, CT/Rockville) also played well upfront for Endicott, nailing home eight kills in the loss.
The Gulls get right back to work on Saturday morning as they finish the MIT Invitational. Endicott will square off with Muhlenberg College at 10:00 AM.
