Bentley Bests Women's Tennis, 5-2

Bentley Bests Women's Tennis, 5-2

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Endicott women's tennis team fell to Bentley University, 5-2, on Wednesday evening.

Today's match was played in conjunction with NCAA Division I and II rules which only awards one point for winning the doubles portion of the match (best of 3, one point). This is in contrast to NCAA Division III rules which awards one point for each doubles flight won by a team.

In doubles action, Bentley earned the first win at the No. 1 spot (6-2) but the Gulls were able to bounce back behind the pairing of Cara McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) Cameron Foley (Lynnfield, Mass.) in the No. 3 flight with a 6-1 triumph. However, the Falcons came away with the 1-0 lead after they won the last doubles match at the No. 2 position (7-6 (7-5)).

Singles saw competitive play between both squads as Bentley took the first two singles matches at the No. 3 (6-1, 6-3) and No. 4 (6-0, 6-4) spots. The Blue and Green battled back as Justine Hoover (Wallingford, Conn.) notched a (6-3, 6-4) victory at the No. 1 flight (6-3, 6-4).

Ultimately, the Falcons were able to win the next two matches to put it away at the No. 2 (7-6 (7-6), 7-5) and No. 5 (6-4, 6-0) positions. Endicott was able to finish the day strongly as Emily Licciardi (Haverhill, Mass.) earned a hard-fought victory at the No. 6 spot (6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 11-9).
