Women’s Tennis Turns Away Bridgewater State, 9-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team opened up its 2018-19 season on Monday afternoon with a dominant 9-0 victory over Bridgewater State University.

The doubles pairings of Alexandra Barmore (Southington, Conn.) / Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) and Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.) / Cara McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) cruised to a pair of 8-0 wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights, respectively, while Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) and Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) rounded out the highlights in the first half of the match with an 8-1 victory at No. 1.

In singles, Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine) gave the Gulls a 4-0 lead in the contest with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 and Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.) clinched the match via a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2.

Endicott also saw Justine Hoover (Wallingford, Conn.), Fernanda Trevino (Dallas, Texas), Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.), and Cameron Foley (Lynnfield, Mass.) all turn in wins at the No. 1 (6-0, 6-0), No. 3 (6-1, 6-0), No. 4 (6-1, 6-0), and No. 6 (6-0, 6-4) positions, respectively.

"That was a great way to start the season with a sweep in today's heat," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "It also was nice to put out a lineup of 12 different student-athletes and see all of them contribute in the win column."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Hoover, McCormack, and Trevino all earned their first career collegiate victories.
  • Endicott has defeated Bridgewater State by a 9-0 score in its last two season openers.

Endicott (1-0) hosts Johnson & Wales University on Saturday, September 8 at 1 PM. Bridgewater State (0-1) takes on Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday, September 11 at 3 PM.
