Endicott battles past Rams, 76-64

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott senior center \#Ceciley Chisholm\# (Lexington, Mass.) scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-11 shooting to help lead the Gulls past Suffolk University, 76-64, in a non-conference women’s basketball game on Wednesday evening in Beverly, Mass. The two sides combined for 60 turnovers, with the Rams turning the ball over 31 times compared to the Gulls’ 29.

A see-saw first half saw Suffolk rebound from an early 10-point deficit (19-9) by charging back with a 10-2 run to pull within two points at the midpoint of the first frame. The visitors would actually carry a 37-35 lead into the intermission after Andorra Salaices (Franklin, Mass.) hit Suffolk’s eighth 3-pointer of the stanza with 18 seconds remaining in the first.

The Rams extended their advantage early on in the second half as Mara Dreiser (Port Ewen, N.Y.) converted on a tough inside look to put the guests ahead, 52-46. The Gulls, led by a spark off the bench from freshman \#Lauren Baryski\# (Walpole, Mass.), opened a 10-3 run that included back-to-back 3-pointers from Baryski to take a 56-55 lead with just under 10 minutes to play in regulation.

The one-point lead quickly opened into an 11-point Endicott advantage as \#Kate Kovach\# (Moon Township, Pa.) connected from 3-point territory. \#Ceciley Chisholm\# closed out the game by scoring 12 points in the final eight minutes to seal the Endicott victory.

Endicott shot 49% from the field (25-of-51) and got to the free throw line 27 times and converted on 20 of those attempts (74.1%). Suffolk was just 8-of-16 from the charity stripe in the setback. The Gulls turned the Rams’ 31 turnovers into 36 points.

Chisholm led all scorers with a game-high 27 points and eight rebounds. \#Ashley Vitale\# (Wilmington, Mass.) had 15 points while \#Kaylin Burke\# (Leominster, Mass.) finished with 10 points and five assists.

Suffolk was paced by Mara Dreiser’s 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Lindsey Rogers (Gloucester, Mass.), Jaqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) and Meghan Black (Roslindale, Mass.) each finished with eight points while Salaices had nine points, five rebounds and four assists.

Endicott (3-1) returns to action on Saturday when the Gulls hit the road for the first time this season when they take on Emmanuel at 1:00 p.m. Suffolk hopes to rebound at home on the same day against Lesley.
