BRISTOL, R.I. – The Endicott College women’s basketball team improved to 5-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 71-53 blowout win over Roger Williams University on Thursday night in Bristol, R.I. The Gulls have won four straight to move to 12-5 overall while the Chargers fall back to 7-11 overall and 3-3 in conference games.

The Gulls began the game with a strong touch from the field, hitting eight of their first 11 shots at the onset. Despite the good shooting, Endicott was unable to break away from the Hawks early on in the game. The Gulls held a brief 10-4 lead four minutes in, but the Hawks would come back with a 12-6 run to tie the game at 16-all.

Elizabeth Kilzi (Waverly, Pa.) gave RWU its first lead of the game with a jumper to make it 18-17, but seven straight points by \#Ashley Wright\# (Merrimack, N.H.) and \#Ceciley Chisholm\# (Lexington, Mass.) put Endicott back up by six. Carly Spagnola (Millbrook, N.Y.) helped the Hawks regain the lead with 5:17 to play in the half with a three-pointer with the shot clock expiring, making it a 25-24 ballgame.

Leading 30-29, a Hawk turnover led to a fast-break three by Wright, who would then make a jumping steal just past half court and found \#Kate Kovach\# (Moon Township, Pa.) for a layup leading to a five-point swing in less than a minute. Endicott would go on to take a 34-32 lead into the break.

The Hawks continued to remain within striking distance early in the second half, never trailing by more than five in the opening seven minutes of the period. Yet Endicott slowly grew distance from the Hawks midway through the half with strong defense.

The Hawks shot 3-of-10 with eight turnovers including shot clock violations on back-to-back possessions over a nine-minute, 18-4 Endicott run that essentially put the game away. Holding a 63-44 advantage over Roger Williams with 5:29 to play, the Gulls never dropped their lead below 17 over the rest of the game.

Chisholm led all scorers with 20 points and six rebounds, while Wright added 19 with four boards and four steals. \#Kaylin Burke\# (Leominster, Mass.) had a solid all-around game for Endicott with five points, seven rebounds, three steals, and a game-high ten assists.

Spagnola and Kilzi each scored 14 for the Hawks in the game, while Ryan Weekes (Worcester, Mass.) finished with ten points and eight rebounds. Alexandria Lanieri (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) added six points and seven boards.

Endicott returns to action on Saturday afternoon when the Gulls host cross-town rival Gordon College at 1:00 p.m. in Beverly, Mass. Roger Williams hosts Colby-Sawyer College at 1:00 p.m. as well on Saturday.
