QUINCY, Mass. - The Endicott College women’s basketball team cruised to an easy 77-49 victory over Eastern Nazarene College in the opening game of conference play for both teams on Saturday afternoon in Quincy, Mass. The Gulls improved to 7-4 overall and 1-0 in the TCCC while Eastern Naz falls to 6-5 and 0-1 in conference play.
The Gulls’ led by five, 15-10, midway through the first half as \#Ceciley Chisholm\# (Lexington, Mass.) paced the visitors with six points. Endicott’s aggressive zone defense and cutting offense forced the Lions into 7 fouls through the first 13 minutes of the game.
\#Kaylin Burke\# (Leominster, Mass.) and \#Nicole Heffernan\# (Londonderry, N.H.) hit consecutive shots for the visitors to break the double digit barrier and go ahead by thirteen, 26-13, with 5:30 to play in the opening half. A well executed inbound play resulting in a Burke layup gave the Gulls a fifteen point lead while the Gulls sailed into the half with a 45-22 lead, shooting 53.9%, as \#Ceciley Chisholm\# finished with a 17 point first half.
The Gulls opened the second half with a 9-4 run to approach a 30 point lead, but an offensive rebound and put back by Jessica Schoppee (Scarborough, Maine) staved Endicott’s attempt. The Lions followed with two more stops on defense and a pair of scores on baskets by Alexis Malloy (Greenbelt, Md.) and Schoppee to pull the home team back to 54-32. However, on the next Endicott possession, Gulls’ \#Lauren Baryski\# (Walpole, Mass.) stopped the Lions momentum with an and-one three point play.
The Gulls \#Jen McBrien\# (Medford, Mass.) pushed the lead to 30 points, 64-34, with 7:30 remaining in the game and traded baskets for the remainder of the game as the Gulls went onto their TCCC season opener, 77-49, and hand the Lions a loss in the same.
The Gulls shot 53.1% from the floor, 44.4% from beyond the arc and 75% from the free throw line. Leading all scorers was Endicott’s \#Ceciley Chislom\# with 22 points and five rebounds and was followed by teammate \#Kaylin Burke\#’s 14 point contribution. Eastern Nazarene was led by Jessica Schoppee’s 13 points.
The Blue and Green return to TCCC action on Tuesday night as the Gulls host Nichols College at 6:00 p.m. in the MacDonald Gymnasium. The Eastern Nazarene College Lions dropped their second straight and look to get back in the win column on Tuesday as well, traveling to Boston, Mass. for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off with Wentworth.
