BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Endicott softball team is on the road Sunday at the University of New England.  Both teams are undefeated in CCC games through the early portion of the schedule.

Game One: Endicott 1, UNE 5

Box Score

Despite two hits apiece from junior third baseman Jocelyn Russo (Middletown, Conn.) and sophomore shortstop Kelley Michael (Ipswich, Mass.) and an RBI from sophomore centerfielder Alexandra Moise (North Reading, Mass.), Endicott struggled offensively against tough UNE pitching in game one.

Nor’easters hurler Kely Reid (Nantucket, Mass.) shutdown the Gulls with nine strikeouts while allowing just one run on seven hits and no walks to improve to 5-1 on the season.

Endicott’s Cam Sprague (Clifton Park, N.Y.) took the loss after pitching 3 2/3 innings but Nell O’Connor (Harwich, Mass.) was strong in relief, allowing one run in 2 1/3 innings pitched with two punch outs.

The Gulls left eight runners on base including two in both the first and fourth innings.  In the fourth inning with runners on second and third with just one out, Reid got out of the jam by striking out and forcing a groundout on the next two batters.

Moise’s RBI came in the top of the third after Russo singled to right then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Jesse Bilafer (Concord, Mass.).  Moise followed with a rope to center to plate Russo.

UNE’s Amanda Vaudreuil (Windham, N.H.) led her team with a sacrifice fly in the first and a RBI double to left center in the third to put the Nor’easters ahead.

Game Two: Endicott at UNE, 2PM

Box Score

O’Connor continued her strong pitching left over from game one with seven impressive innings in the circle as she led Endicott to a 4-2 win over UNE.  The sophomore allowed eight hits and didn’t strike out a batter but managed to get out of jams.

Five Endicott hitters had two hits including Bilafer, Moise, Colleen Martin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and Sam Cila (Wakefield, Mass.) who all had RBI hits in this game.

The Gulls solved their offensive woes from game one by scoring two runs right off the bat in game two.  Bilafer doubled with one out and scored as the next batter, Moise, went up the middle to plate the game’s first run.  A single by Michael followed and Martin doubled to left center to bring home Moise.

In the top of the second, the Gulls tacked on one more run after Cila opened the inning with a single to center, advanced to third on a Russo hit and scored on Bilafer’s poke to right field.

As O’Connor held the Nor’easters scoreless through five innings, Endicott was able to add their fourth run in the top of the fifth on a Cila RBI single that scored Martin.

UNE was able to get RBI hits from Vaudreuil and senior Ashley Gott (Winterport, Maine) but it was not enough as Endicott held on to win 4-2.
