Gulls rally to beat St. Norbert 10-8; lose 4-3 to Lake Forest

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Endicott softball team spilt a pair of games down at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida on Tuesday morning, bringing their 2012 season record to 4-1 overall.  Endicott will face \#23 UW-River Falls and Anderson (Ind.) tomorrow at 9:00 am and 11:00 am. 

Game One: Endicott 10, St. Norbert 8

Trailing St. Norbert 8-6 after the third inning, Endicott rallied for two runs in both the top of the fourth and fifth to earn a 10-8 victory over the Green Knights. 

The Gulls scored twice in the fourth inning on a passed ball then an error by the St. Norbert catcher that brought home Jesse Bilafer (Concord, Mass.) and Alexandra Moise (North Reading, Mass.).  In the next at bat for Endicott, a single to right by Krista Fales (Melrose, Mass.) plated Moise and Jocelyn Russo (Middletown, Conn.) to break the 8-8 tie. 

Fales two-RBI hit was her only hit of the game as the junior went 1-for-3 with a walk.  Junior Colleen Martin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) had three hits in the game including a double to centerfield that brought home two runners as part of a five-run first for the Gulls. 

Moise crossed the plate three times and was a terror on the base paths with three thefts to bring her team-high total to four through five games.  Endicott stole seven bases on the Green Knight pitchers in this game. 

On the mound for Endicott, freshman Meg Donegan (Atkinson, N.H.) labored through 1 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits and two walks.  Junior pitcher Kayla Carignan (Laconia, N.H.) came on in relief to earn her second victory, hurling 5 1/3 innings and allowing an additional four runs (three runs) on 10 hits without a walk.

Endicott fought back in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie Lake Forest 3-3 on an error off the bat of by the Green Knights first baseman that allowed runners from second and third to score. 

St. Norbert, however, responded in their next at bat with an Aubrey Pendegraft (Creston, Iowa) single up the middle to drive home Alyssa Vechiola (Kildeer, Ill.) to take the 4-3 lead.

In Endicott’s final at bats, Russo got into scoring position hoping to tie the game but was stranded after a strikeout ended the game.
Sophomore Nell O’Connor went seven strong, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out two.

Katz accounted for Endicott’s lone RBI in the game, roping a single up the middle to score Fales in the second inning.
