BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's volleyball team fell to MIT, 3-0, by scores of 25-16, 25-20, and 25-14, on Thursday night in non-conference action inside MacDonald Gymnasium.
John Osborne (Freehold, N.J.) highlighted the night for the Gulls as the senior outside recorded his 1,000th career kill. Osborne, who entered the contest with 993 career kills, finished with exactly seven putaways to reach the milestone, while also collecting six digs and one block assist.
Osborne is just the fourth student-athlete in program history to reach the 1,000 kill milestone, joining A.J. Witkofsky (2,001), Jeremy Fontaine (1,641), and John Emery (1,045) on the illustrious list.
Endicott also received six kills apiece from Troy Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) and Daniel Toth (Glenwood, N.J.), and another five putaways via Alex Wasik (Milford, Mass.). Cameron Little (San Diego, Calif.) dished out 29 assists, while Ryan Healy (Fair Lawn, N.J.) tied Osborne for the team-high in digs with six.
MIT was led by Matt Reilly (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Skyler Kaufman (Needham, Mass.) as the duo both tallied 11 kills each in the win. Martin Krasuski (Aurora, Ill.) also contributed nine kills to the attack, and Tavish Smith (Laguna Beach, Calif.) sent home seven to round out the rest of the offensive highlights for the Engineers.
As a team, MIT notched 14 kills or more in each set, hit over .450 twice (sets 2 & 3), and did not trail at any point during the entire match.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Osborne entered this season with 811 kills, which put him seventh on the all-time list.
- This season alone, Osborne surpassed James Silva (853), Mike Coflesky (860), and Zeke Kubisch (888) on the all-time kills list.
- MIT is now 18-12 in the all-time series versus Endicott, which dates back to February 9, 2002.
- The Gulls defeated MIT earlier this season, 3-2, on January 30 to earn a split with the Engineers in 2016.
- Today's win for MIT marked its 11th 20-win season in program history.
FOR THE FOES
- Yize Dong (Moraga, Calif.) finished with a match-high 35 assists, alongside six digs, and three blocks (one solo).
- Dong has recorded 30 or more assists in 16 matches this season.
