Gulls Clinch CCC Regular-Season Title With 1-0 Win At Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. The Endicott men's soccer team celebrated a 1-0 victory over the Gordon College Fighting Scots on a chilly Tuesday night at the Brigham Athletic Complex in the final match of the regular season.

With the win, Endicott clinched the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) regular-season title for the second season in a row and now awaits official pairings for the upcoming CCC Tournament which is set to begin on Saturday, October 29.

Freshman midfielder Jesse Martinez (Walpole, Mass.) netted his second goal of the season in the 33rd minute. Junior back Ryan Cohane's (Easton, Conn.) free kick was sent into the box and headed down by freshman forward Evan Couchot (Mason, Ohio) for Martinez to boot into the back right of the goal to give the Gulls the 1-0 edge. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott matched its season-long win streak with its third straight shutout victory tonight.
  • Couchot earned his third assist of the season, while Cohane picked up his second.
  • Martinez notched his second career game-winning goal.
  • Senior goalkeeper Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) registered five saves in the match as he improved to 11-5-2, 8-1-0 CCC and earned his 11th clean sheet (third consecutive).
  • All but one of the Gulls' victories this season have come by way of a shutout.
  • Endicott was ranked No. 10 in the latest 10/25/16 NSCAA New England Region Poll.

FOR THE FOES

  • Senior midfielder Caleb Cole (Coatesville, Pa.) is currently second in the CCC with 31 points on the season, but was held to just one shot tonight.
  • Sophomore midfielder Josh Beveridge (Anchorage, Alaska) paced the offensive attack with three shots.
  • Senior goalkeeper Josh Spoonhour (Greencastle, Pa.) made two stops as he fell to 11-4-1 on the season.
  • Gordon out-shot Endicott, 11-5, including a 5-3 margin on goal.
  • Gordon still holds a 20-3-2 advantage in the all-time series versus Endicott.

NOTES

  • Endicott won last season's regular-season match, 1-0, on 10/27/15, but Gordon won the most recent meeting before today, 2-0, in the CCC Championship at Hempstead Stadium on 11/07/15.
