No. 3 Men’s Rugby Dominates National Competition At Bryant 7s Tournament

SMITHFIELD, R.I. — The No. 3 nationally ranked Endicott men's rugby team won the Bryant 7s Tournament on Saturday evening behind a perfect 5-0 record.

In pool play, the Gulls defeated No. 14 Bryant (43-0), No. 20 UMass Lowell (Division 2, 22-18), and No. 5 UMaine (17-7).

Endicott went on to defeat No. 7 Holy Cross (19-12) in the semifinals and Division 2 perennial power No. 6 Norwich (35-19) in the championship match.

Defensive Tackle of the Day was awarded to Ryan Cafferky (Medford, Mass.) for his consistent hard tackling.

Men of the Match went to Patrick Brennan (Newington, Conn.) for leading the team with his overall play and Jack Leahy (Swampscott, Mass.) for his consistent hard tackling and running.

Meanwhile, the best championship moments belonged to Brad DiGiacomo (Simsbury, Conn.) and Matthew Hicks (Clifton Park, N.Y.). DiGiacomo made some massive kicks on kickoffs and conversions, while Hicks was a workhorse in defensive tackling and line speed.

No. 3 Endicott (19-2) will host the Gulls 7s Tournament on Saturday, April 1 (time TBD).
