BEVERLY, MA - Kevin Lally (Derry, NH/Pinkerton) netted one goal and dished out five assists to become Endicott's all-time career points leader as the Gulls exploded for nine first period goals and glided past Wentworth Institute of Technology, 16-5, Tuesday night at Endicott Stadium.
Lally's 307 points surpassed Chris Maher's (1996-99) previous record of 306 to solidify a spot in the record book. The senior also holds the all-time NCAA career assist record in Division III with 233 helpers.
Lally opened the scoring 1:04 into the contest and Josh Gilbert doubled the lead nine ticks later. Parker Sowles (Cumberland, ME, Kents Hill) made it 3-0 at 3:50 of the first to propel the Gulls (7-3, 5-0 CCC) to their sixth straight victory while the Leopards fell to 2-5 overall (2-3 CCC) despite a pair of Joe Marcel (Levittown, NY/Holy Trinity) tallies.
Josh Gilbert (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) and Burt Fahy (Needham, MA/Needham) also notched goal and Brandon Dube (Danvers, MA/Danvers) handed out three assists. Wentworth cut the lead to 5-1 midway through the first when Ryan McGovern (Marstons Mills/Barnstable) fired a shot past Ryan Walsh (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth).
That was as close as the Leapords would get, however, as Endicott strung together five unanswered goals, including two by Fahy and one by Gilbert. Alex Howe (Darien, CT/Darien) capped off the first period surge with 2:35 remaining to increase the Gulls' cushion to 9-1.
Dan Ryan (Billerica, MA/Billerica) capped the five-goal rally 2:44 into to the second period, taking a pass from Sowles and firing a shot past Nick Murphy (Cohasset, MA/Cohasset), who made 10 stops for the Leopards. Endicott scored three goals in the second period but Wentworth tallied two of its own, cutting the deficit to 12-3 at intermission.
Wentworth opened the third period with a goal by Marcel, but Ryan answered a minute later with his third goal of the game. Sowles capped off the third period scoring at 9:36.
