CAMBRIDGE, MA - Endicott College's 11-second half goals propelled it to a 17-4 victory over MIT in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday.
Scott Purchase paced the Engineers (2-1) with a goal and an assist while Kevin Lally (Derry, NH/Pinkerton) totaled 10 points on two goals and eight assists for the Gulls (2-3). Burt Fahy (Needham, MA/Needham) bolstered Endicott's attack with a game-high six goals and three assists.
Josh Gilbert (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) opened the scoring by connecting on a feed from Fahy after 4:52 had elapsed in the contest. Fahy recorded the next four goals with Lally earning three assists during the run and gave the Gulls a 5-0 advantage at the 10:09 mark in the second quarter.
Tech ended the shutout just over a minute later on an unassisted goal by Purchase. A man-up goal by Brendan Delaney (Franklin, MA/Franklin) with 27 seconds left in the half gave Endicott a 6-1 edge at the break.
The Gulls notched another extra-man score and tacked on two more within the first three minutes of the half. MIT's Paul Steiner stopped the spree when he scooped up a dropped ball and found the back of the net.
The Gulls extended their lead to 10-2 on an unassisted goal by Lally at 8:43. The Engineers answered 14 seconds later when Dylan Roden set-up Jonathan Stolmeier. Endicott countered with six consecutive goals that brought its margin to 16-3 with 5:49 left in the game. Stefano Young connected on a pass from Purchase for Tech's final goal 40 seconds later.
In net, Zach Brewer collected 20 saves and six groundballs while Charles Herder picked up a game-high seven groundballs. Ryan Walsh (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) made nine stops through three quarters and Sean Kearney (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac)closed the game with four saves. Mike Clifford (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechuag) paced the Gulls' defense with six groundballs.
