Endicott Claims Emphatic Victory at RWU Invitational

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - In its final tune-up before the two-day Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship this weekend, the Endicott golf team came out on top at the Roger Williams Invitational on Monday. The Gulls fired a team score of 310 for the event, clearing the second place team, Salem State, by 15 strokes.

Finishing third was Roger Williams (326), followed by Rhode Island College (329) and Roger Williams' white squad (342) in the top five. Other teams competing were Western New Englad, Dean, Gordon, Suffolk and Emmanuel.

Individually, Nicholas Grimbilas (Strafford, N.H.) took home medalist honors for the second straight event, as the junior fired a round of +5, 76 on the par 71, 6,830 yard course at the Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth, R.I. His round of 76 came via a 36 on the front nine, while he closed with 40 on the back.

Teammate Tyler Baker (Falmouth, Maine) tied with Grimbilas for the low score at the Invitational with a round of 76, firing scores of 38 on both the front and back nine. Kyle Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.) was just behind, posted a score of 78 (38-40) on the day to finish tied for fourth, while Brady Burke (Bedford, N.H.) closed out the scoring with a round of 80 (37-43), to finish tied for eighth. Frank Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.) also competed for the Gulls and posted a round of 82 (42-40), to tie for 11th in the field of 49.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Gulls will compete at the CCC Championship on Saturday and Sunday. The two-day championship will be hosted at the Raceway Golf Club in Thompson, Conn., with tee times set for 8:00 AM on both days.
