Max Motroni Named To 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team

2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District™ Men's Basketball First Team

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott junior guard Max Motroni (West Warwick, R.I.) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Men's Basketball First Team for the first time in his career as announced today. The NCAA Division III District 1 team includes all schools in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined academic and athletic performances. First-Team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Motroni is the first Endicott men's basketball student-athlete in program history to be recognized on the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District Team and is the only junior represented on this list in his district's division this season.

CoSIDA, which began its recognition of NCAA scholar-athletes in the 1950's, has honored more than 15,000 deserving athletes across all divisions in 12 sports. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or a key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

In the classroom, Motroni sports a 3.81 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as an Entrepreneurship major at Endicott. Motroni has earned several academic awards during his career at Endicott, including being a member of the 2014-15 Endicott Academic Varsity Club and is a Dean's List honoree. Motroni has interned with Northwestern Mutual doing financial advising and is active in the community with stocking and serving food at the Open Door Food Pantry in Gloucester, Mass.

On the court, Motroni was named to the 2015-16 Keene State College Tip-Off All-Tournament Team this season and garnered Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week accolades last season as a sophomore (02/16/15), in addition to being named to the All-CCC Second Team in 2014-15.

In 2015-16, Motroni set a new career-high with 16-of-18 free throws made in an 82-76 win at home over Middlebury on Jan. 2, 2016 and tallied a career-high 25 points at Curry on Jan. 5, 2016. Motroni has scored double-digit point totals in all 21 games played this season and currently is third in the conference, hitting 41.9 percent of attempted three-pointers.

This is the fifth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA recognizes four teams - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-District™ Team combines NAIA, Canadian, and two-year schools. Previously, CoSIDA recognized a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I). With four teams now being selected, CoSIDA has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored.
