NEW YORK, NY - NYU freshman guard D.J. Glavan (Chicago, IL/Loyola Academy) tallied 15 of his career-high 23 points in the first half as the New York University men's basketball team cruised to a 70-54 victory over Endicott College in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
Glavan netted nine of his points during a 13-0 first-half run, as the Violets (3-2) held the Gulls (2-6) scoreless for 7:02 and without a field goal for 7:37 to take control of the contest.
Overall, Glavan scored his points in a variety of ways while shooting 9-for-12 from the floor: he hit a three-pointer, went 4-for-5 from the charity stripe, converted several backdoor cuts and fast-break opportunities into lay-ups, and also hit a few mid-range shots for good measure.
For good measure, Glavan also added four rebounds, three assists and two steals in 22 minutes off the bench.
Glavan also helped ignite an NYU defensive effort that limited Endicott to 5-for-33 shooting (15.2%) in the first half. In fact, the Gulls did not convert a two-point field goal until leading scorer Gary Corbett (13 points) drained a jumper with 18:20 remaining.
Meanwhile, the Violets used their trademark stifling defense -- Endicott ended up shooting just 28.1% (18-for-64) -- to set up offensive opportunities for senior guard Charlie Parker (12 points, 3 assists) and sophomore forward (10 points, 4 rebounds).
Nesci also saw senior center Michael Magee (7 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks) and freshman forward Richie Polan (5 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists in his second collegiate start) contribute in each aspect of the game.
Overall, NYU shot 49.0% (25-for-51) from the floor and owned a 34-8 edge on points in the paint despite getting rebounded by a 41-36 margin.
Graham Whitelaw (Kennebunk, ME/Cheverus) had eight points in the loss for Endicott. Samuel Evans (Philadelphia, PA/The Hyde School) finished with five points and a team-best eight boards for the Gulls.
NYU is off until Saturday, Dec. 29, when it opposes Denison University at 1 p.m. in the first round of the NYU Holiday Tournament. Endicott returns to action on Thursday evening as they will play host to Emmanuel College at 7:00 p.m.
