WESTON, Mass. - Endicott College used a 31-19 halftime advantage to hold off Regis College, 61-58, on Saturday afternoon in a TCCC contest in Weston, Massachusetts. The win puts Endicott back over .500 in the conference at 5-4 (9-12 overall). Regis falls to 8-13 and 2-7 in the TCCC.
Endicott's Todd Burton (Lynn, Mass.) led a hot-handed Gulls squad in the opening half as he scored 12 points before the intermission.
The Pride would take the court in the second half clawing its way at the Endicott lead. Endicott maintained a double digit lead over Regis until Herb Lozano (Boston, Mass.) made good for two with 6:33 remaining in period two.
Mike Barile (Windsor Locks, Conn.) sank a three-pointer from the right wing to cut the Gulls' lead down to five. The two teams would trade possessions before Mike Rhodes (Amston, Conn.) made consecutive free throws to give Endicott a three point lead. At the 3:41 makr, Phil Alibrandi (York, Maine) and Lozano picked up six points for the Pride.
With 1:09 remaining in the contest, the Pride trailed by two as Phil Alibrandi stood at the line. Brandi made 1-of-2 from the charity stripe, pulling the Pride within one. To halt play, Endicott burned a full timeout with less than a minute left in regulation.
Following a quick Regis foul, junior Mike Barile forced up a desperation three-point attempt as the clock ran down to zero. His attempt was waved off as the official signaled a traveling violation, sending the Gulls to the 61-58 win.
The two teams continue conference play Feb. 12, as Regis takes on Western New England College, and Endicott faces off against the University of New England.
