NEW YORK, NY - Gary Corbett (Danbury, CT/Danbury) scored a team-high 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting to help lead Endicott past The City College of New York, 82-68, in a non-conference match-up on Saturday afternoon.
Endicott built a 13 point halftime lead thanks in part to a strong inside game from Tom Connor (York, ME/Traip Academy). The Endicott forward scored nine of his 11 overall points in the opening 20 minutes of action. Corbett also ignited a hot hand in the first half, shooting 4-of-5 including a three to shoot the Gulls into the intermission with a 43-30 advantage.
Todd Burton (Lynn, MA/St. Mary's/Canterbury) had an impressive second half as he scored eight of his 14 overall points in the second stanza. Graduate student Samuel Evans (Philadelphia, PA/The Hyde School) was the Gulls leader on the glass, as he hauled in eight rebounds and notched eight points in the winning effort.
CCNY was led by Taleek Norman (Bronx, NY/Mt. St. Jacinto CC), as the Beavers' senior guard scored 16 points and dished out nine assists in the loss. John Paul Barela (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva) had 12 points for the home team.
Endicott (2-5, 0-0 TCCC) returns to action on Sunday as the Gulls continue their New York road trip. The Blue and Green with square-off with NYU at 2:00 p.m.
