#12 Endicott ties #5 Marist

#12 Endicott ties #5 Marist

Nov. 18, 2006

Saturday, Endicott traveled to Marist where they would try to prove that their first win against the \#5 ranked Red Foxes was no fluke. The Gulls had Matt Murray in the pipes, who played a great game as the Gulls skated their way to a 4-4 tie. The first period brought very intense action by both teams that resulted in a 2-0 lead for the Gulls. Junior forward Brian Sullivan netted his second goal of the season from a nice pass from freshman line-mate Drew Moore. Marist fought back but Matt Murray denied any goals to pass, as he very much looked on top of his game.

The second period was very much like the first, however, Marist had done the scoring early on, as they beat Murray with two shots that the goalkeeper would love to have back. Tying the score at two, Marist seemed to lean back a bit, as Endicott came back again with another goal to put them back on top, 3-2.

The beginning of the third period was much anticipated as fans wondered if the Gulls would be able to hold on to the win. Endicott came out with another quick goal to put them up 4-2. The middle of the period was a goal by Marist from just beyond the blue line that seemed as though it was going to miss the net, some how made it in as Marist climbed back in, down only a goal. For the remainder of the period Marist scrambled hopelessly to tie the game and to somehow beat freshman goaltender Matt Murray. Sure enough, their relentless attack paid off as a floater of a shot sailed over a fluttering Murray for the tying goal of the game. Regulation ended and the score was knotted at 4-4, a five-minute overtime was necessary. Overtime was just as hard fought as the rest of the game as Endicott had more that enough chances to bury the biscuit and take home the win, but Marist's goaltender wouldn't let that happen as overtime ended and the teams both settled for a tie. It seemed as Endicott was in command much of the game but let it slip away, and settled for the tie. Endicott resumes their season after Thanksgiving break on November 29 as they once again travel away to play WPI at 8:00pm.
